Some coffees are discovered by visiting their production areas;

But the Genting Geisha entered our hearts even before we set foot on that mountain.

In 2026, Danaka hosted the Sensory Specialty Coffee course in Myanmar. Throughout the numerous blind tastings and discussions, this geisha-like coffee from Mengmao consistently captivated us. It lacked an overt fermented aroma and didn't deliberately pursue dramatic flavors, yet its clean, pure, and balanced elegance demonstrated remarkable consistency in countless cupping sessions.

"Yunding" is not a mountain, but a landscape. It represents the forests of Gongming Mountain that are shrouded in clouds and mist all year round, and also symbolizes that this coffee grows on the high mountain peaks near the clouds.

A pristine land, keeping its distance from the world.

Gongming Mountain is located in the Wa Autonomous Region, the northernmost part of Myanmar, bordering Yunnan Province, China. At an altitude of 1,300 to 1,650 meters, its dense forests, abundant springs, and significant diurnal temperature variations create an ideal environment for the slow ripening of coffee. For many years, this mountainous region has been largely closed to the outside world due to border tensions, which has allowed it to preserve its pristine forest ecosystem and natural environment.

This coffee comes from the local Mountaineer Coffee Estate. Since its establishment in 2011, the estate has focused on 100% Arabica specialty coffee. For the past fifteen years, they have not only established a strict self-quality control system, but also provided their coffee seedlings to surrounding farmers free of charge, sharing organic fertilizers and planting techniques.

The Wa people, who live in the Gongming Mountains, have coexisted with the forest for generations. During the harvest season, pickers carry bamboo baskets and carefully select ripe red coffee cherries one by one on the steep and rugged slopes. Unable to use large machinery, the entire process is done by hand; it's not just labor, but a profound respect for the land. Here, time seems to slow down, allowing the coffee more time to mature, resulting in a more complete sweetness and complexity.

What truly deserves to be remembered is not just the flavor in the glass, but where it comes from.
